AFGE Local 12 Nomination Notice

Nominations for the upcoming AFGE Local 12 officer election will be held on September 9, 2020 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the U.S. Department of Labor – Francis Perkins Building (FPB) located at 200 Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20210 and via ZOOM at the link below. You may download the ZOOM application on your smartphone or tablet.

The nomination process for AFGE Local 12 Officers and Delegates will be held in via ZOOM for the following offices:
-President
-Executive Vice President
-Secretary

-Treasurer

AFL-CIO Metropolitan Washington Council (4 delegates)
AFL-CIO Maryland State and District of Columbia Convention (4 delegates) AFL-CIO Virginia State Convention (1 delegate)
AFL-CIO Northern Virginia Central Labor Council (5 delegates) AFGE National Convention (6 delegates)
AFGE National Capital Area Council (Council 1) (6 delegates)
District 14 Caucus Elections (6 delegates)

Please note, nominations and elections for Agency Vice Presidents will be conducted on or around November 23, 2020.

A quorum is not required for a nominations meeting. Nominations will be taken from the floor or by written submission and self-nominations are permitted. A second for a nomination is not required.

Nominations for all positions may be made in writing. Written nominations must be received in sealed envelopes addressed to AFGE Local 12 Election Committee not later than 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 9, 2020, at P.O. Box 1212, Washington, D.C. 20013. Nominations can also be sent by email to the members of the Election Committee listed below.

Qualifications to run for office are as follows:
• Be a member in good standing of AFGE Local 12
• Be an AFGE Local 12 member for at least one (1) year preceding the nomination meeting

How to Nominate:

Any member who (1) is current in dues as of August 31, 2020, or (2) delivers a signed SF-1187 form to Elizabeth Small, Treasurer, or her designee by 12 p.m. two work-days prior to a nominations meeting, is in good standing and eligible to nominate candidates.

A nominee must accept a nomination at the nomination meeting, but a nominee who is absent from the nomination meeting may tender acceptance in writing. A written acceptance must be received by the Election Committee -- either in a sealed envelope (addressed to AFGE Local 12 Election Committee, P.O. Box 1212, Washington, D.C. 20013) or by e-mail (to) jefferson.irene@dol.gov or lee.darlene@dol.gov no later than 10:00 am., Wednesday, September 9, 2020. A lone letter of acceptance is a self-nomination. Self-nominations are permissible. Seconds are not required for a nomination. The member making the nomination has the responsibility of informing the nominee of his or her nomination. Nominations may also be made in writing to election committee chairperson, Irene Jefferson via email at jefferson.irene@dol.gov or lee.darlene@ dol.gov. Written nominations should include your name and contact address.Information, nominee[s] name and position[s] nominated for, and the nominee[s] contact information. All written nominations must be received by the election committee no later than 10:00 am on September 9, 2020.

Nominees can accept/decline nominations verbally at the meeting or in writing to the election chairperson. Nominees not present during the nomination meeting will be notified by the election committee of their nomination immediately after the nomination meeting. The term of office will be for two years.
